This year has seen 2 young women from Herefordshire, Audrie Schneller and Issy Timmerman recently gain and have presented their Queens Guide Award. The Queen’s Guide award is the highest award you can work towards in Girlguiding. It gives young women the chance to develop skills while contributing to guiding and their local community – at an impressive level! Both have been working on their awards for roughly 3 years, gaining them independently of each other earlier this year. The two presentations were done virtually owing to the current Covid19 situation, where family and supporters were invited along to hear all about their exploits on how they gained the Queens Guide Award. This included:
· Running a Brownie Residential event and a Guide Camp
· Gaining new skills and confidence in long distance running and learning how to ice skate
· Introducing Lacrosse to young children and looking at the benefits of exercise. Exploring Mental Health issues in the community and wider world and then presenting their research to interested parties
· A skiing expedition in Banff, Canada and an exploration of Castles in Wales Both Issy and Audrie have said how much they have grown in themselves while working on the Queens Guide Award, and would thoroughly recommend young women “to give it a go”. Many congratulations to both young women.
